Our Director - Our Purpose
Laura Stahly is a licensed teacher who has taught for over ten years. She has been a teacher for preschool, first, third, and a blended fifth and sixth grade classroom. Over the course of her career, she has developed and implemented a variety of curricula and activities with diverse groups of students. With a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education as well as Psychology and a Masters of Science in Education specifically for elementary science education, she has also taught several college courses for elementary educators at Purdue University. All of these experiences enhance her ability to meet the needs of our many learners.
Heads Up Learning was created in 2005 because, with ten plus years in creating curricula and materials to use with Laura's students, she realized that schools were being pushed to focus more intently upon testing rather than learning and problem solving. She knew in her heart that children needed to experiment, discuss, manipulate, collaborate, and even play in order to make sense of their world. With most public schools eliminating important programs and services in recent years, a response to these losses was needed. It was imperative that some type of comprehensive learning program fill these recently created gaps. This was the beginning of Heads Up Learning!
